While the folks at History have yet to make any formal announcements, we can make a few educated guesses. Let’s take a look at the facts:
They are still filming new episodes of Forged in Fire Season 10
As we first reported a few weeks ago, filming for the 10th season of Forged in Fire kicked off on June 5th. After putting out a casting call at the beginning of the year, the judges made their way back to the studio a month ago to start in on the new season. Even after having spent the past month in the studio, the format of the show definitely requires a longer time period to get each episode through the third round. Several bladesmiths have shared the extended time period between filming the first two rounds, the at-home third round, and their return to the studio for final judging. We can expect any episodes being filmed now to be extended several weeks, perhaps even months, before they are complete.
There were episodes filmed for Season 9 that have yet to air
Anyone who’s spent any time on this site knows we like to speak with as many Forged in Fire contestants as we can get our hands on. Occasionally, we catch a bladesmith or two who have filmed episodes for the show which haven’t yet aired. Now, we never ask questions nor do we share specific details about these unaired episodes in order to help the smiths adhere to the show’s confidentiality requirements. However, we can confidently say that the studio likely has Season 10 content “in the can” and ready to go even though they are still filming. This is no surprise considering the length of a typical Forged in Fire season (Season 9 first aired on March 30th and wrapped on November 2nd).
The release dates of Forged in Fire seasons seem to follow a pattern
Looking back at the previous nine seasons of Forged in Fire, there is a pretty clear trend. While the specific release months may vary, new seasons are always released either in the Fall or Spring windows. How you define those windows may be debatable, as season 1 was released in June ‘15 which was then followed up by season 2 in February ‘16. However, we can plainly see the show being released in the same two general time periods.
Aside from release months, let’s look at the time elapsed between seasons. Early on, seasons were separated by roughly six to eight months, which makes sense considering the smaller episode count at the time. Later seasons have been much larger, obviously requiring more time in between seasons. The average amount of time between Forged in Fire seasons is nine months, with the most recent non-pandemic seasons being separated by eleven months.
When will we see Forged in Fire Season 10?
Based on all this, we’re betting we’ll see new episodes of Forged in Fire this Fall. With the exception of the pandemic season of 2020, the longest amount of time between seasons has been 11 months. Since season 9 finished in November ‘22, we could be just a few short months away from new episodes. Of course, as there’s been no official announcement from the studio, we should probably “hedge our bets” a little bit. If that Fall release window comes and goes, then we’ll likely see season 11 drop in February/March ‘24.
